After ten years, the Museum’s popular HO model railroad exhibit showing Harwich and the neighboring towns of Orleans and Brewster, is due to come down. Built by members of the Nauset Model Railroad Club of Orleans, the layout’s trains will operate for the last time this December. Visitors to the Museum can watch the trains run on the December “Christmas in Harwich” days, December 2nd, 9th, and 16th from 1 to 4 PM.
The exhibit is currently on the second floor of the Brooks Academy Museum, in one of the two original rooms of the building, once known as the Pine Grove Seminary. The building, constructed in 1844, in the then popular Greek Revival Style, will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2019. A special exhibit is planned for this occasion.
Do you recognize the building from the model railroad shown above? It’s still there today on Rt. 124, a popular lunch spot for cyclists on the bike path.
