After ten years, the Museum’s popular HO model railroad exhibit showing Harwich and the neighboring towns of Orleans and Brewster, has come down. Built by members of the Nauset Model Railroad Club of Orleans, the layout’s trains operated for the last time in December of 2018.
The exhibit is currently on the second floor of the Brooks Academy Museum, in one of the two original rooms of the building, once known as the Pine Grove Seminary. The building, constructed in 1844 in the then popular Greek Revival Style, celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2019 with a special exhibit for this occasion.
Do you recognize the building from the model railroad shown above? It’s still there today on Rt. 124, a popular lunch spot for cyclists on the bike path.
